As a recreational shooter some years ago I needed a spotting scope to observe how I was doing on targets out to 300 yards.
What I came to appreciate was that a cheap optic could be found with adequate magnification, but proper resolution, clarity sufficient to see a .22 bullet hole at 100 yards, or an 8mm hole at 300, even on specialized target faces, was much, much more expensive to obtain.
For many years I've be aware of the major actions by the opponents of a free, independent, and politically conscious middle class. Very recently two commentators have provided adequate resolution to understand the plan they are operating from.
