It appears that public memory of the hype surrounding Y2K (planes falling out of the air), global warming (NYC underwater by ... years ago), WuF1u (everything about it - 'cept actually blaming the CCP and Fauci) has conditioned folks against blindly believing things. Hence the broad skepticsm and reluctance to leap into the AI doom scape and pass legislation enabling the techbros a US government enforced hegemony in development.
