Well well. Just as we learned in the big one ... or would have had not all the attention been on the atom bomb ... just as Reagan brilliantly decided to employ against the Evil Empire ... Modern "war" is as described best by two PLA instructors at the war college (read it! - 1) an "Unrestricted War" across all areas of engagement and not exclusively bombs on civilians.

2. Mine Warfare folks - our Navy must simultaneously drastically downsize (scrap the whole CVBG thing) and modernize. Naval Mine Warfare (offensive and defensive) must be an area of unparalleled excellence. It gives an American Commander in Chief strategic flexibility and reduces vulnerability. Our Navy has failed miserably in this area even while I've been beating this drum as a sailor who in his career has been on both sides of the MW equation.
