One for the ages

Danny Ihrig left this world early today.  He had decided to finish at home with his beloved wife LaJuan.  Danny was one of those people folks gravitated to.  A big man with a big presence and an inquisitive mind, he had a memory for the slightest details of other folks' lives that he'd hear.  Via him I think I heard, in detail, how Burge Smith became the baseball coach at Concordia some three times in the five years I knew him.  He loved sports, fishing, the outdoors and had stories galore about each.  Danny radiated friendliness and was constantly inviting folks he met to join him at  the Men's Bible Study at either Faith or Zion Lutheran – he went to both.  He genuinely was the 'conversion factor' in more than one mans's life.   As there wasn't a suitable feed store or bait shop proximate, Danny regularly held court at the center booth at the Whataburger by Sun City in Georgetown Thursday mornings (free coffee for seniors).  He knew about everyone he'd regularly lay eyes on there – be they the Sheriff,  a retired Viet Nam fighter pilot, realtor, teacher, farmer, or rancher.  His warmth was appreciated by all.

Better than a great man, he was a genuinely good one.

He'll be missed here 'bouts, we were blessed to have known him.
