There is frequently a scene in good SciFi/Fantasy within which the lead character learns that some ancient enemy long thought obliterated is, in fact, alive and presenting a mortal threat. In the underappreciated series Babylon 5 that comes in Season 2, Episode 16 "In The Shadow of Z'ha'dum". I have to admit feeling much like Capt. Sheridan when, looking at the less filtered reporting on events in Los Angeles, I read the history of LA's Mayor.
To explain, when I find a book that's unusually well sourced and that provides important information I become a real promoter for it to be read by the right people. I annoyed intelligence folks with Claire Sterling's "The Terror Network" when it first came out in 1981. Even with the publicity associated with it's initial publication an intel officer from Special Forces hadn't heard of it when I was with him aboard a carrier off Iran during the "reflagged tanker" escort ops. (I later had the same frustration with trying to get 'professionals' in National Defense to read "Unrestricted Warfare" a decade and a half later - but that's another story)
A word in the news last night cued me to open up my dogeared and faded copy this morning.
